The Last Winner

from Modern Mistakes by Glenn Robinson

/

about

The first demo of this song dates back to 2005. The funny thing is, in the 7 years of this song’s existence, I never once changed anything about it. It was one of those songs that kinda wrote itself. It’s ridiculously simple and fun to play. The lyrics are about doing enough in life to just get by. I don’t need to have the nicest things or be a millionaire; I just want to live comfortably within my means.

lyrics

I don't know just where I stand
Could you please draw me a diagram?
So I can pick it back up and get it all right now
The last winner never shines
But they get what they want when they have the time
So go pick it back up and get it all right now

We always leave ourselves to dream
So we don't have to care
Cause nobody knows when they're gonna go
And that just don't seem fair.

I don't know what my future reads
I don't care. I don't think I do what I please
So I can pick it back up and get it all right now
I don't mind just where I'm placed
Could you just save me a seat just in case?
I ever pick it back up and get it all right now.
