In 2009 my friend Sean challenged me to an "album-in-a-day" project. The rules were that you had to write and record 24 minutes of completely original music within 24 hours. I wrote a lot shitty songs and ultimately failed. However, this song survived and held up throughout the years.

The lyrics were a total stream of thought. I didn't really know what I was saying until I listened back to the 2009 demo. I was unknowingly in a bad place at the time. I just put on a happy face and was completely dishonest about how I truly felt. The unfiltered honesty to these few lines really showed me that these lyrics did come from a place of hopelessness. It kind of blew me away because normally, my music is very light hearted and I almost go out of my way for people to not take me seriously.

This song set the bar as far as the vibe I wanted for this record. It was written very naturally, it was short, catchy and yet felt like a complete song.
